Extra Sweet Potatoes Varieties

Adding to the diversification process we are producing four types of sweet potato varieties now.  We are now producing  Purple skin/ Purple flesh  and white skin/ white flesh varieties besides the normal ones which we produce which are Purple skin/ Purple Flesh  and White skin/ white flesh .

Sweet Potato Flour and Starch

As part of the diversification process which we are currently embarking on we are now  producing Potato Flour and potato based Starch. We are producing for both human consumption and animal consumption. These processes are completely separate  and done accordingly to  standard good manufacturing Processes.

Spaguetti Squash ( Cucurbita pepo.)

The Spaguetti squash  botanically named as Cucurbita pepo. is a winter type squash.  This squash are allowed to mature fully on their vines.   They are also known as the Vegetable Spaguetti by other people.    According to some sources this was one of the first squashes to become commercially popular in the United States.  It is said that they originated in China specifically in the Region of Manchuria.  It was in 1936 which  the squash under la name of Somen Nankin  that Atlee Burpee and Co. brought the squash to North America. They won popularity during World War II when it was used as a substitute for pasta as it was hard to obtain during those times.

This squash provides great amounts of Vitamin A, folic acid, beta-carotene and potassium.    Folic acid is globally known to help prevent birth defects on pregnant women.    Folate which is also know as Folic acid or Vitamin  B9  helps break down protein and create new ones.   According to fitness magazines everywhere this acid helps to form new bloods  cells throughout the body.  Vitamin A  is considered a powerful  anti-oxidant.  Beta carotene which is a precursor to Vitamin A as mentioned in the other explanations, plays a role in various functions of the human body such as: Vision, gene transcription, immune function, bone metabolism, skin and cellular health.  This squash along with the others which we offer to the world contain high amounts of vitamins and other nutrient essential to the Human. We find pride to offer only nutritious vegetables in Tropical Fresh.

Acorn Squash ( Cucurbita pepo. Var. Turbinata )

Acorn squash ( Cucurbita pep.  Var.  Turbinata)    which is also called in other parts pepper squash or Des Moines squash is a winter squash.   The squash is indigenous to North and Central America according to various sources.    The squash was introduced to the early European Settlers by Native Americans.    The name Acorn does not stick to this squash randomly.  If you take notice this squash has a form of an acorn, but a slight bigger.

             Squashes are believed to be the oldest cultivated food in North America. Squashes were grown and eaten extensively by the Pueblo tribes of southwestern United States as well as the famous tribes of the Apaches, Hopi ,  Havasupai, Papago,  Pima  , Zuni , Navajo and Yuman Tribes.   The  Squashes   shells were also used as water recipients  by the native north American Indians, Aztecs and the and Central American  Mayans. This squash  is a good source of dietary fiber and potassium. They contain also amounts of vitamins C, and B magnesium and manganese. Another produce of Tropical Fresh which carries a great history  and a healthy profile to be enjoyed at your dinner table.

Sweet potato (Ipomoea Batata)

The amazing Central American root of sweet potato (Ipomoea Batata) or camote as we call it in our country, contains large amounts of starch, vitamins, fiber (cellulose and pectin) and minerals. In Honduras this root can be grown and harvested throughout the year. This beautiful and exotic root is not only a delight but nutritious. Sweet potato exceeds the conventional potato energy wise.
Our sweet potatos contain high amounts of Vitamin A along with high amounts of beta –Carotene which is a precursor for Vitamin A. Vitamin A plays a role in various functions of the human body such as: Vision, gene transcription, immune function, bone metabolism, skin and cellular health. Vitamin A is very good antioxidant. Our sweet potatato also contains pantothenic acid (B-5) vitamin. B-5 provides support in the synthesis of antibodies and iron for our bodies.
Helps alleviate stomach ulcers, gastritis and other gastric problems. Additionally B-5 helps lower cholesterol level in the blood. Sweet Potato also provides vitamin B-6.( pyridoxine) which is an essential vitamin to convert glucose into energy. B-6 vitamin also helps create neurotransmitters, hormones, and red blood cells which are essential for a optimum functioning for our bodies. Vitamin B-1 is a co-enzyme which helps the body convert carbohydrates into energy. Vitamin B-1 also plays a role in the nerve, muscle and heart function. Our sweet potato provides a considerable amount of vital minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and potassium which are essential for enzyme, protein, and carbohydrate metabolism.

Butternut Squash

The apple of God was an expression given to the squash by the Native North American Indians. Smooth, tan-skinned fruits are large for an early variety, measuring (25- 30 centimeters) 10 to 12 inches in length and weighing about 6 pounds each. Squash is commonly recommended by dieticians in the cholesterols controlling and weight –reduction programs.
Our squash contains high amount of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is a powerful anti- oxidant. They contain considerable levels of minerals such as iron, zinc, copper, calcium, potassium, and phosphorus. Iron is an essential element for blood production. iron deficiency can lead to anaemia. Iron is also involved in the synthesis of some neurotransmitters. Potassium is a highly important mineral for our bodies. Potassium is crucial to heart functions and plays a key role in skeletal and smooth muscle contraction, making it key for a normal digestive and muscular functioning. These are just two of the various available minerals which come in our Butternut squash.
Butternut squash is a very nutritious vegetable which has been overlooked for some time.
